Before it was a trend, designers behind Golden Goose had thought that articles with history were no less valuable than new ones. This philosophy was realised in the Italian brand’s shoes, which have conquered the world despite (or thanks to) the simplicity of the technique. What they did was take classic skateboarding and basketball silhouettes and reconstruct them with lavish materials one would expect from an Italian brand. Each pair is handcrafted by local artisans who then add the secret ingredient: they paint, decorate and brush the shoes to give them a vintage worn-out effect (of course, without affecting durability). The patterns of paint, scratches and patina never recur, making each pair unique.
‘They created a product that was missing and it became a household name. We had Converse, Martins, Levi’s, now we have Golden Goose.’
